Abstract

The work, which is the subject of our study, covers the Yemen period of Hristo Stambolski's memoir, which he wrote throughout his professional life. This part, which is in the fourth part of the second volume of the three-volume work, was translated into Turkish by Hüseyin Mevsim and published in 2020 at Yeditepe Yayınevi under the name of A Bulgarian Physician in Yemen (1877-1878). In the work, it is seen that Hristo describes in detail the events that developed from the beginning of the journey, the exile process and the aftermath. The work includes both the political structure of the period and the information of the places on the route from Istanbul to Yemen. The most important aspect for us is that it has opened a different door in terms of the history of medicine, with the details it gave about the diseases seen in both the military and the civilian population and their treatments.
