Abstract

Human beings, despite being among those endowed with special status by the Creator, experience disability—whether congenital or acquired—as a common and undeniable reality throughout history. While some individuals lead perfect and healthy lives, others grapple with the challenges posed by disabilities. This diversity reflects the universal truth that within the richness of human existence, everyone has a unique story. The perspective on individuals facing disadvantages serves as an indicator of the moral character of a society and the value it places on human beings. In a project titled 'The Prophet of All People,' edited by Adem APAK, this work, authored by Cuma KARAN—one of the experts in the field—under the title 'Prophet Muhammad and the Disabled People' serves as the 10th book in the series. It explores the Prophet's relationships with children, young people, the elderly, women, government officials, the wealthy, the poor, relatives, non-Muslims, and the disabled under ten distinct titles. This work is crucial in terms of raising awareness about the 'disabled' a group that constitutes almost ten percent of our society. The work examines the verses addressing the mistreatment of individuals with disabilities during a time when they were despised. It also explores the Prophet's compassion and understanding in his interactions with disabled Companions, highlighting the importance of encouraging their active participation in society. Moreover, the work underscores the relevance of integrating these values into contemporary life.
